Itinerary
Early Pickup from Cusco (Approx. 04:00 AM)
Your guide will pick you up early from your hotel in Cusco. Travel south toward the Acomayo Province, with a 3-hour drive through picturesque Andean landscapes, passing small villages and agricultural fields.
Breakfast and Start of Hike (Approx. 07:00 AM)
Enjoy a light breakfast en route or upon arrival at the trailhead. Depending on the route selected (Santa Lucía or Campi), the hike to Waqrapukara takes 2.5 to 3 hours through open grasslands and rugged terrain, gradually gaining elevation.
Arrival at Waqrapukara (Approx. 10:30 AM)
Reach the incredible Inca sanctuary of Waqrapukara, dramatically located on a mountain ridge at over 4,300 meters (14,100 ft). Explore the ceremonial plazas, Inca terraces, watchtowers, and carved stone enclosures, all surrounded by vertical cliffs and horn-shaped rock spires that give the site its name.
Guided Exploration and Rest (10:30 AM – 12:00 PM)
Enjoy a guided tour of the site, with historical explanations and time for rest, photos, and quiet appreciation of the incredible views over the Apurímac River Canyon.
Return Trek and Lunch (12:00 PM – 14:30 PM)
Begin the descent back to the trailhead, retracing your steps or taking a slightly different route if conditions allow. Upon reaching the base, enjoy a box lunch or local meal, depending on the tour option.
Return to Cusco (14:30 PM – 18:30 PM)
After lunch, relax on the return drive to Cusco, arriving at your hotel in the early evening with a sense of awe and accomplishment.
