Itinerary

Palcoyo Rainbow Mountain

Early Pickup from Cusco (Approx. 04:00 AM)

Begin the day with pickup from your hotel in Cusco, heading south for a 3.5-hour drive through the Andean highlands toward the base of Palcoyo. Along the way, enjoy views of valleys, herds of alpacas, and local farms.

Breakfast Stop in Checacupe (Approx. 07:00 AM)

Stop in the quaint town of Checacupe to enjoy a light Andean breakfast and see its colonial bridge and church. This also helps with acclimatization before heading higher.

Arrival at Palcoyo and Start of Hike (Approx. 09:00 AM)

Reach the starting point at 4,800 meters (15,748 ft) above sea level. Begin a gentle 45-minute to 1-hour walk along a wide, relatively flat trail. Along the route, take in panoramic views of the three rainbow-colored mountains and the surrounding landscape.

Explore the Stone Forest and Ausangate Views

At the viewpoint, you can observe the Stone Forest, an ancient formation of vertical rocks, and enjoy a stunning lookout over the snow-capped Ausangate Mountain, one of the most sacred peaks in the Andes.

Return to Trailhead and Drive Back to Cusipata for Lunch (12:00 PM – 13:00 PM)

After taking photos and exploring the area, walk back to the transport and head to Cusipata, where a buffet-style lunch awaits.

Return to Cusco (13:30 PM – 17:00 PM)

After lunch, relax during the drive back to Cusco. You’ll arrive at your hotel in the late afternoon.
